“The past year has been an enjoyable one, with trips to both Scotland and Cornwall in the snow, inspiration has been plentiful. Plein air painting has been at the heart of the past year, those studies made under the sky have formed the basis of many studio exploits.
With living in quite an equestrian village subjects have been easy to find, this has enabled me to study horses in greater detail. I’ve completed several pencil sketches of horse skeletons and muscles from Stubbs’ book ‘The anatomy of the horse’. This background work, even before thinking of a painting, has helped my understanding and execution.
I’ve also compiled my first book this year, spending the winter nights and spring evenings writing. The book is about what inspires me and makes me want to paint.
It’s been exciting to see the development of my paintings that will form this years’ exhibition and I’m excited about seeing them on display once again in the gallery.”
